I hope each and every one of you is having a great weekend thus far. I was a bit sleepy upon waking this morning, but that was from my own doing. I started off my day by trying out a ministry on campus called Elderly Outreach. A group of students, as well as myself, left campus around 10am to head to the retirement home. I was a bit nervous, but mostly just excited to make some new friends there. For those of you that don't know me well, I absolutely love elderly people. LOVE THEM. Maybe it's from not getting to have my grandparents as long as I would have liked, but either way I love their stories and perspective and knowledge. Today we met a man named Dean who used to play the piano all across Europe during his life. Flash forward many years, and here I am standing in his little room with other ministry members and he's playing on an old plastic piano, I'm sure a far cry from the places and pianos he has once played on, but how beautiful his playing was. Just beautiful. It reminded me that you never know where someone has been, what gifts they possess, or what they have to offer or show you until you put yourself out there. Besides meeting Dean I met a lot of other sweet people including a lady named Virginia,Trudy, a sassy old woman with red hair who introduced me to her "good-lookin'" boyfriend in a cowboy hat, and a sweet woman named Eleanora who was reminiscing about her children and the many fresh starts she has had to make in her own life over the years. Today made me wonder where I'll be in 60 years, what kind of life will I have lived? I pray that above all it will be a life that honors God and blesses others...
