WEATHER: Rainy
Rain in Paris! And it supposedly will continue on until the end of the week. I usually love rain, but today it just made me gloomy. I have been not feeling so well as of late, and therefore have not been sleeping that well. However, when the morning rolls around I have been trying to get up and stay up all day so maybe sleep will be a bit easier. Today attempting not to fall asleep took up all my energy and left me indecisive as to my choice of activity for the day. My Drawing class was supposed to be today but unfortunately my Professor had a bit of back trouble that will push Drawing and Painting until Thursday and Friday. SOOOO, that means we have enjoyed a surprise 3 day weekend. I am appreciative because I need some time to get healthy again. I am slowly getting there too! :~)
The highlight of my weekend is also a highlight of my life! Not too often I can say that. Nuit Blanche was spectacular, in that Me and Cait decided to forgo some of the crowds around Notre Dame and Luxembourg Gardens by visiting the Eiffel Tower on a spur of the moment whim. As we exited the metro Cait excitedly declared,”THERE IT IS!” And that was that. Twenty years of seeing photographs, paintings, hearing stories, and there it was indeed. We walked about 10 minutes until we reached the base of the tower. Just as we sat down on a bench the Eiffel began to gllitter and sparkle. Slow, then faster, dazzling all people within it’s path. What a tourist I am. I whipped out my camera for a quick video and some photographs. However, I made sure to put down the camera and just watch. Viewing life through a lens is easy when you are traveling, but stopping to just breathe and look is what truly makes your heart beat and your breath catch. It was a first experience to relish. It was romantic to the extreme. Maybe one day I will get to experience the glitter and sparkle with someone that makes my heart glitter and sparkle. A happy dazzling moment it will be.
The Eiffel was not the only thing we saw during Nuit Blanche. We hit the major spots including Luxembourg Gardens that was housing the world’s largest Disco Ball. John Travolta, and my brother too for that matter would have burst out into disco fever. It was crowded beyond belief though. It was like New Year’s Eve crowds, or maybe worse. It was unbelievably chaotic to say the least. We made that a short stop before getting back on the metro. The idea behind the disco ball is quite beautiful and respectable. Because big cities, especially Paris, don’t have the privilege of enjoying starry nights he decided to create one. That ball spun and glowed, and lit up the night sky. Paris really is a city of lights.
Our second place to visit for the evening was Notre Dame. Majestic and mysterious, especially with a full moon hiding behind gray clouds in the background, I was quite impressed. I had seen it once in the daytime, but at night is far better in my opinion. We went inside to see an installation that included glowing crystals, very Kryptonite-esque. It was dark inside, but colorfully lit. Organ music flooded within the grand corridors, and echoed from one end to the other. The inside matched the grandeur of the outside. Powerful.
So that was Nuit Blanche. We could have explored more and seen an infinite amount of art work, but not feeling so good we decided we had pushed ourselves to the limit for the night. We covered the big stuff, experienced the hype of the night, and enjoyed some magical moments…I couldn’t have hoped for a better night considering. Paris has so much to offer. It’s like a present that you keep opening only to find another box within. When will I finally reach the last box and find the hidden jewel, the core of Paris, the love that beats within? I hope I get to that point before I depart on November 30th. I would hate to be in such a place of beauty and not discover what makes the heart of the city beat passionately…
Me and God have been spending moments together. I want to be a woman that lives and loves for Him alone.
“Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.” ~Proverbs 31:30
In His Love in the City of Lights,
Meg
